North Carolina Education Research Council

The North Carolina Education Research Council provides research to support decision making on major policy issues by the Education Cabinet and the units of state government its members represent. The Cabinet includes the Governor, the Chair of the State Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the President of North Carolina Community Colleges, the President of the University of North Carolina, and the President of the North Carolina Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (ex officio).

First in America: A Preview (March 2000)

In his 1999 State of the State Address, Governor Jim Hunt challenged North Carolinians to make our schools First in America by 2010. The Governor directed the North Carolina Education Research Council to design and issue an annual Progress Report and Report Card on the state's progress toward the First in America goals. Initial drafts of the First in America reports are provided. The first official reports will be released in the fall of 2000.
