The University of North Carolina
Timelines for Phasing Out Current Master's Degree Programs and
Phasing In Revised, Consolidated, or New Advanced Master's Degree Programs

Critical dates:

Fall Semester 1999: The last term in which a student can enroll in his or her first course in a current Master's degree program
September 1, 2000: Elimination of the "G" license and issuance of the first Master's/Advanced Competencies license
Last Summer Session 2002: The last possible term of all current Master's degree programs

Best Advice:

  1. Begin revised, consolidated, or new Master's degree programs that lead to the new Master's/Advanced Competencies license as soon as possible (ideally in Fall 1998 or Spring 1999)
  2. Close out admission to current Master's degree programs as soon as new programs are available (ideally as early as Fall 1998 or Spring 1999) so that the number of students who will need to "transition" (transfer) from current to new programs is minimized
