Executive Summary

An Information Technology Vision for the Future

The emerging knowledge revolution is creating unique opportunities and challenges that require
new thinking, bold action and continuous effort to improve and innovate. In this environment, the
University of North Carolina and its constituent institutions must be leaders in the effective use of
information technology to ensure that all North Carolina citizens and regions prosper in the 21st
century.

Imaginea national leadership role for UNC in teaching and learning with technology that differentiates
UNC from other institutions, attracting the best students and faculty to the University and providing the
best educated and trained graduates to the State and the world.

ImagineUNC institutions will use technology to create a community-enriching environment in which
every campus can deliver quality, seamless support services to lifelong learners anytime, anywhere.
Service delivery is enhanced, and student satisfaction with admissions, financial aid, registration, and
other administrative processes is high.

Imagine increased sharing of administrative systems resources and knowledge that results in reduced
costs for software, hardware, and services for all of the campuses. Strategic planning and decision
making are based on better quality information that is available on a more timely basis.
