This handbook answers questions you may have about the program. If you have a question that it does not address, please contact a PEP staff member.

ASSIGNMENTS: Many instructional sessions have assignments. You are responsible for turning these in by the due date and for being prepared to discuss work from the assignments at the relevant session.

CONTACT INFORMATION: If there are changes in your school, home or e-mail addresses or your fax or phone numbers, please notify the coordinator of your program.

CLASSROOMS: You may leave notebooks and other program materials in the classroom overnight, provided we have the same classroom the following day. Neither PEP nor any of the facilities we use are responsible for lost or stolen articles, so we suggest that you not leave any personal items. You may leave your PEP computer in the classroom during the day, but not overnight.

COPY MACHINES: PEP will not be able to make copies for you; therefore, we suggest you make copies of all your assignments before you arrive for your session.

CELL PHONES: Out of respect for classmates and presenters, turn cell phones off during instructional periods. Emergency calls can be directed to 919-843-5000. All messages will be delivered to participants.

DRESS: Appropriate dress for PEP sessions is business casual – khakis or dress slacks and a button down or knit shirt for men, and slacks, dress or skirt and blouse for women. We request that you not wear shorts, blue jeans, T-shirts, or other casual sportswear to class. You may want to bring a sweater or light jacket since some classrooms may be especially cool. Occasionally we will take field trips to nearby sites, so you may want to bring walking shoes and rain gear for such occasions.

EVALUATIONS: Input from participants is a valuable resource and tool for PEP; therefore, you will be asked to evaluate sessions throughout the program. Your program director will provide specific information about how this will be done in your program.

HONOR CODE: The University Honor Code applies to PEP participants. It "prohibits lying, cheating, or stealing when these actions involve academic processes." Violation of the code is basis for removal from the program.

MEALS AND DIETS: PEP provides all lunches and some dinners. If you are under a doctor's care or require a special diet, please let your program coordinator know.

MEDICAL CARE: Call 911 for emergency medical assistance. Otherwise, please see your program coordinator or director for specific instructions on medical facilities in the vicinity of your program site.

NAMETAGS: Please wear your nametag during all residential sessions. At the end of each residential session, please leave your nametag on your table.

PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of a PATL program includes satisfactory completion of all required assignments and attendance at all sessions.

SCHEDULING CONFLICTS: PEP requires a strong commitment not to let daily demands of school and family come between participants and the program. If an unavoidable scheduling conflict arises, please call the program director or the program coordinator as soon as possible to discuss options for making up missed sessions.
