Week 3, March 7-9, 2000
Theme: Focus on Students

Assignments to be completed by March 7th.

  • Complete Profile and the Overview and Current Status sections of Technalysis of your PATL Project website.  If you wish to have your website updated before the March PATL session, send the files you've modified to Carol Ashby by February 11.
  • Read chapters 1 and 2 (or more!) of Digital Literacy.  Author Paul Gilster will be a presenter at our March session.
  • Read the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for Students (in your PATL pail).  Visit the NETS website to see the other documents associated with this important project.
  • Develop the short narrative for the Action Focus sections of your PATL Project website.  Bring this file to our March session.
  • Send a short email to Manish Kothari thanking him for the gift of your AlphaSmart Keyboard. Tell him how it might be used at your school.  Copy the email to Sheila (scory@email.unc.edu). If you have not used an AlphaSmart Keyboard, learn how to use it from the manual.
  • Subscribe to the wwwedu (World Wide Web in Education) listserv.  "Lurk" for awhile to see what is discussed.  For your PATL project, you will pose a question to a listserv and discuss the responses you receive.  You might want to send a note to the listserv introducing yourself.  It is always nice to know who has joined the list.

Week 4, May 9-11, 2000
Theme: Focus on Community Connections and Moving Forward

Assignments to be completed by May 9th.

  • Complete your web page, including the following sections:
-Action Focus: a short narrative that identifies the focus of your action plan and the specific issue you want to address
-Resources: including at least five North Carolina resources, fifteen other resources, and responses from a listserv to a question your raised about your school and technology
-Action Plan: a chart with events, activities and responsibilities to move your school technology program forward
-Graphic: a graphic that outlines the steps you will take to reach the goal

  • Prepare a 20-minute presentation about your school and technology.  Use your website to demonstrate what you are showing.  You will make this presentation to a group of your classmates during the final week of PATL.

    Your presentation should include:
-Overall Description: In general, what does the technology program at your school look like?  What are some of the basic features?
-TAGLIT Learnings: What are some of the main things you learned from the TAGLIT assessment?  What was confirmed?  What surprised you?
-Action Plan: What area will you work on after you leave PATL?  What are some of the things you plan to do?  Show your graphic as part of  this discussion.
-Resources: Highlight two resources that you have located yourself that will help you with your action plan.

We will allow a half hour for each presentation, so there will be time for questions.
