Berea College 1970-1974 Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education,
Appalachian State University 1996 Master in School Administration (MSA) |

| Current Job |
Currently I am principal at Fleetwood
Elementary School. Without an assistant principal my
responsibilities run the gamut. Instructional Leadership duties,
budgeting, staff development activities, school management, buses, safety,
hiring staff, and school improvement issues are a few of my
responsibilities. |

| Other Jobs |
I was an assistant principal at
Northwest Ashe School (7-12) from 1995-1999. Before that I taught 16
years at Nathans Creek School, 1 year at Mountain View Elementary, and 3
years at Ashe Central School. My teaching experience was in grades 5 - 8. |

| Passions |
I enjoy working with young people in
coaching. I coached baseball, basketball, and football for many
years. I am an active member of Baptist Chapel Church with several
responsibilities. Outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing are
pastimes I do often. Gardening is another passion. My wife and I enjoy
traveling now that our 3 children are grown. |

| Must Reads |
The Provident Principal by
Jack McColl. I have read this book on two different occasions. It
has given me an insight into what is important in the principalship. Mr.
McColl has a passion for the principalship.
What's Worth Fighting for in Your School by Michael Fullan
and Andy Hargreaves. This book made me realize more fully that that
the people you work with are the key to a school's success.
Guidelines are given for developing collaboration among school personnel. |
