Our School and Technology

Education .  Education:  I attended Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts and received an Associate of Arts degree (Liberal Arts).  I then attended the S.U.N.Y. at Brockport and earned my B.A. degree in secondary education (English).  After two years of teaching I began working on my masters degree in Special Education at E.C.U., and following the completion of that degree, completed another in Supervision.  I earned my principal’s certificate also, all at E.C.U.

Current Job

Current Job:  I am currently employed as Headmaster of Kerr-Vance Academy in Henderson, N.C.  This is my eighth year at the school.  Prior to serving here I was an elementary special education teacher (LD) for five years, a school administrator for thirteen years, and then a high school special education science teacher for three years.

My responsibilities include the leadership role, along with general supervisor of all programs, including maintenance, transportation, development, etc.  I have often compared it to a superintendent’s job, with a much smaller population.

Other Jobs   see above

Passions !  I spend most of my time between reading in the winter months and working outside in my gardens in the spring and summer.  I adore working with my perennials and love trying my hand at growing different varieties, including herbs for cooking.  I travel as much as possible and would pack up and move to Florence, Italy at the drop of a hat.  I love to experiment with Italian cooking and enjoy trying different foods while I am abroad.  I am a true Gemini..I am either reclining for hours with a good book, or chomping at the bit to travel.  I also have a spot in our local antique mall and enjoy collecting and appraising antiques.

Must Reads Must Reads: I do not read educational journals, if I can help it.  I really can’t say the I have ever read one that was the least bit intriguing or helpful.  I am in the process of re-reading some of my favorite books of all time. I have just completed Thackery’s “Vanity Fair” and “War and Peace” and at the same time was reading J.K.Rowling’s latest, “Goblet of Fire”.  Presently I am reading Jack Whyte’s series on the Roman occupation of Britain and the origins of the Arthurian legend and Rebecca Wells’ book, “Little Alters Everywhere”.  I am also reading Scott Peck’s “People of the Lie” and I adore Rosamunde Pilcher books and anything dealing with Tudor Britain.  “Contact” remains on my top ten of all times book.
