Current Job

I am Principal at York Elementary School within the Wake County Public School System.  My primary responsibilities are assuring a safe learning environment for our 670 students and assuring that each of these students are receiving a quality education.  Managing the staff and the budget are major components of these tasks.

Other Jobs  Before becoming the Principal at York Elementary, I was the Principal at Conn Global Communications Magnet School, also in Wake County Public School System.  For many years, I worked in the Special Education field, beginning as a teacher at  Wright School in Durham.  I left the position of Assistant Director of Wright School to become a Program Specialist with the Wake County School System in Special Education.

Passions

My family consumes much of my energy outside of my professional world.  Even though my son is now in college, he continues to be a huge part of my life.  I am an animal lover and have a boxer named Sammy.  I have many friends and spend a lot of my time talking with them on the telephone.  I also love the coastal region and frequently visit my two brothers who live in that area.  We enjoy fishing, canoeing, sunbathing, scalloping, and cooking and eating fresh seafood.

Must Reads

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey is definitely a book that speaks to me .Reading this book is always inspirational to me in terms of my personal life as well as my professional life.  He seems to be a very wise and principled man.

Since most educators enjoy reading fiction for  relaxation, I highly recommend Anne Rivers Siddons’ books, particularly Outer Banks and Colony.  She develops her characters very well which keeps the readers’ interest and makes the reading fun.

Quotes

“Reality is something you rise above.”  Liza Minnelli

“To love what you do and feel that it matters---how could anything be more fun?”  Katherine Graham, American Newspaper Publisher
