Must Reads Best Practice - New Standards for Teaching and Learning in American Schools by Zemelman, Daniels, Hyde.  This book summarizes best practices of progressive teaching in six subject areas: reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts.  It is a great resource and would be especially helpful for new teachers and principals.  Each subject area chapter includes sections on what parents can do and what principals can do.

An Hour Before Daylight  by Jimmy Carter.  Carter writes in a style that makes you feel you are listening to him tell these stories of his boyhood and the important influences in his life.
