Personal

Passions

I show and handle “working class” dogs in AKC Conformation Competitions. I currently am the proud
Owner/handler of an American Canadian Champion Akita and am in the process of “finishing”
a Doberman for a client. In my spare time I kayak and belong to a kayaking club which “runs rivers.”

Relationships

My mother was one of the most important people in my life. She was a self-made woman who was courageous, assertive, humorous, loving, and most of all passionate about education. Orphaned at age 9, she managed to put herself and three brothers through school. Ultimately my mother obtained her Ph.D. in medical ethics from New York University, where she held a full professors chair until she retired.

My father was an important figure in my life as well.  He exemplified efficiency, discipline, and tenacity as well. You could always depend on him to help get the job done!

The other most important person in my life is my husband of 26 years.  He has encouraged and supported me throughout
my educational process and professional achievements. He also has had to put up with my lack of interest in providing adequate home cooked meals, running our household like boot camp, and my need to plan, plan, plan.

Secrets Of An Educators Long-Term Survival

This is my twenty ninth year in education. Twenty three years were spent in the area of special education. Special Educators historically burn-out after their seventh year.  My secret to longevity is my ability to use visual imagery to get me through the peaks and the valleys of life. Humor can help a lot but being of German decent, humor is something I constantly work at.  My husband says that Germans should stick to doing beer!

Visual imagery is a technique whereby you envision yourself in another time or place. You can also envision yourself with a different appearance etc.  It is used extensively in Europe as an alternative to
medication. My favorite place to imagine myself is in a log cabin on top of a mountain back home.
Of course there is a fire going and my dogs are sleeping on the floor next to my favorite reclining chair. Everything is so peaceful and quiet.  Life is just wonderful!
